The Fanboy Experience

On May 31st - June 2nd 2013 there was an awesome get together of Horror, Sci-Fi, Comic Books and Art fans in Knoxville, Tennessee and it was called "The Fanboy Expo".

Stars of Film, Tv, Wrestling and the Comic Book industry were there to greet fans and hear the stories from said fans of how these stars influenced their lives in some way. I am a fan of all things mentioned and had the opportunity to meet the "Legends of the Ring": "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Diamond Dallas Page and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. The stars of The Devil's Rejects: Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and PJ Soles had a Q&A session together and many other stars had photo sessions with fans.

I was honored to have the opportunity to not only be at this event but to interview the very people that inspired me to be who I am today. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper was the first interview and the very inspiration for The Dean's List. His "Piper's Pit" segment on then WWF programming was where you saw Piper verbally destroy and dismantle a guest all while making himself look like he was a professional until the tried him physically. In later incarnations, Piper's Pit became a show of importance and when a WWE Superstar came on the show you knew something great would happen. Roddy Piper is the inspiration for The Dean's List and I am so very honored to have met and interviewed him.

Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Diamond Dallas Page were the next to be interviewed and these men not only were awesome but are two men that I looked up to during their career in wrestling. Jake gave me a little "ribbing" and was really cool. His transformation from six months ago to now is a testament to his desire to better himself but also speaks volumes about DDPYoga. DDPYoga "Ain't Yo' Mama's Yoga" and DDP reminds you of that if you call it Yoga. DDP the two-time WCW Champion took all of the things that yoga teaches, threw out the stuff that he felt like he didn't need and DDPYoga was born. He spoke from the heart and also challenged me to better myself, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! I will repeat this a great number of times but, I am truly honored to have met all of these cool folks at this great event and can't wait for the next one.

William Katt was the next celebrity to be on the show and was a delight to chat with. He suggested the movies "House" and "Carrie" for the 31 Days Of Horror this fall. The Greatest American Hero even signed a picture for the Rock Maiden's stepfather after the interview, believe it or not... Yeah, he rolled his eyes and laughed at that too.

Kane Hodder choked us both but was really cool and talked with us for at least thirty minutes about Friday The 13th, Ed Gein and the Hatchet films.

Anthony Michael Hall talked with us about the original Vacation, The Breakfast Club and took a picture with Britt.

So many fans were dressed up as characters such as Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers. If you've never been to a convention, I suggest that you go next year to Fanboy and I'll keep you posted on when it is. Hopefully next year we'll be there all three days...
