31 Days Of Horror: HALLOWEEN

It's early, but I'm gonna watch it tonight because it is: HALLOWEEN
This movie is the quintessential horror movie, in my opinion. A child kills his sister and is locked away in an asylum, only to grow up strong and very powerful. Almost unstoppable is what most people would say. Michael Myers returns to Haddonfield to spread fear in this little town and does just that. A long time favorite of mine as well as my mother's and I always watch the original on Halloween. Thanks for following the 31 Days of Horror and if you suggested any movies that didn't get reviewed for any reason, there's always next October :)

31 Days Of Horror: Day 30

Driving through the backwoods of Texas, five youths pick up a traumatized hitchhiker, who shoots herself in their van. Shaken by the suicide, the group seeks help from the locals, but their situation becomes even more surreal when they knock on the door of a remote homestead. It's quickly apparent the residents are a family of inbred psychopaths, and the unlucky youths suddenly find themselves running for their lives. In hot pursuit is a disfigured, chainsaw-wielding cannibal known as Leatherface.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 29

A group of young adults set up tent near the abandoned summer camp where a series of gruesome murders are said to have taken place back in 1980. The perpetrator was a grieving mother, driven insane by the drowning of her child, Jason, whom she believed was neglected by the camp counselors. As legend has it, the last survivor of the attacks beheaded the woman. But then Jason came back, and now he is a vengeful and inexorable killer, wielding crossbows, swords, axes and other sharp instruments. The legend proves horribly true, as these campers quickly discover. Six months later, the brother of one of those campers distributes posters of his missing sister. The police believe she took off with her boyfriend; but he knows better. The brother crosses paths with an uptight young rich guy who is having his girlfriend and friends over at his parents' cabin. The brother ends up at the cabin himself just before his sister's attacker sets upon them all.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 28

It's not hard to believe that I'm a long time Elm St fan. I grew up lying to friends about watching the movies cause I was afraid of the boogieman and they wouldn't understand. Freddy scared me because he could get me in my dreams and most kids cannot control their dreams. The psychosis of a child if off in the slightest bit can cause them to act out at school, at home or anywhere for that matter. Freddy is a child predator that was burned alive by the parents of the children he preyed upon. Most folks nowadays flip out when you mention child predators or pedophiles and curse the very ground that you walk on when you do talk about them. Freddy could reach you in your dreams and he would either toy with you until he killed you or he would use you to get more of "his children". The series was awesome and the remake was good, I believe the digital effect of Freddy coming out of the wall was the only thing from the remake that I would change. Love the films and will always be a Kruger fan!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 27

Lance Preston and the crew of "Grave Encounters", a ghost-hunting reality television show, are shooting an episode inside the abandoned Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, where unexplained phenomena has been reported for years. All in the name of good television, they voluntarily lock themselves inside the building for the night and begin a paranormal investigation, capturing everything on camera. They quickly realize that the building is more than just haunted - it is alive - and it has no intention of ever letting them leave. They find themselves lost in a labyrinth maze of endless hallways and corridors, terrorized by the ghosts of the former patients. They soon begin to question their own sanity, slipping deeper and deeper into the depths of madness, ultimately discovering the truth behind the hospital's dark past...and taping what turns out to be their final episode.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 26

This docudrama tells us the story of the cannibalistic Grandfather and the targets he sought out. I've always studied the serial killers of the past and the only one that I have quoted has been Albert Fish. The quote is: "None of us are saints."

The quote holds true in more ways than one and I do not condone the actions of Albert Fish or other serial killers. The movie gives you the story of how Albert Fish became the sexually perverted killer and the family that saw his demise. This is a horror because it was real and that's why it's made the 31 Days of Horror list

31 Days Of Horror: Day 25

Frank misses his mother, who was killed in a car accident years before. She was abusive to him, and made money selling her body, but Frank still misses her. He tries to keep her from leaving him, and reform her evil ways, by killing young women and putting their scalps on mannequins which he displays around his apartment. Photographer Anna takes a picture of him in the park, and he pursues and befriends her. Is she the one he's been looking for or just another mommy wanna be?

Yeah, this dude was whacked in the head! The movie was good and I'm still amazed that this movie helped spawn the song "Maniac" by Michael Sembello for the Flashdance movie!

Scream is a cool movie about how a sick mind would use horror movies to get away with murder. A cool concept from the mysterious mind of Wes Craven and a really cool movie. 31 Days of Horror: Day 23

The one movie that my whole family would watch was Jaws! We would all sit in the living room with our snacks, drinks and get ready for the "We need a bigger boat." line to be said. It's a cool feeling, when you can look back at something like this.

Jaws was the movie that kept people out of the water. Even the swimming pools at times! It was a universal scare that could get anyone at anytime. That's when you know it's a hit! The movie is a classic and if you haven't seen this or the sequels that followed, well you truly are missing out!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 22

I had someone suggest this movie and I'm sorry that I have forgotten their name at this time, I watched this and was surprised to see the use of terror and not gore in a horror movie for today's audience. It was refreshing to see a PG-13 rating for a horror movie. The story was pretty good as well, having a teacher that has feelings for a student and then kills her family so they could be together was definitely a different take on the genre. I recommend this one if you wanna scare the young ones.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 21

The Children of the Corn is based on a short story by horror author Stephen King. The original movie is considered a cult classic, but many do not consider it a just interpretation of the story that was written. The very man that stylized the original movie chose to remake it in the same way as the story this time. Stephen King refused to read the screenplay of the remake based on how Hollywood, in a way, corrupted the original movie.

The town of Gatlin, Nebraska has been a ghost-like town in many ways, except for the children. These God-fearing children using only the Old Testament books of the bible, killed the adults of the town as sacrifice to the Lord. The story is one of great mystery and vicious horror. I suggest seeing this if you haven't already done so.

That's My Boy

I didn't get to see this one in the theater, but I just watched it at home and you folks don't wanna miss it!

Donny (Adam Sandler) has an inappropriate relationship with his teacher and since she became pregnant, Donny gets custody of the baby at the age of 18... Given the nature of this story and the fact that every red blooded male would love for that fantasy to come true, That's My Boy shows what could happen from both the child and the man-child's point of view. Don't get me wrong, it's funny and I consider it another Adam Sandler classic, I looked at the characters and could see the pain that Todd had to deal with and could see the love that Donny had for his son Todd.

I highly recommend this movie and I believe this movie starts the new "Dean's List" movie scale!

Puppet Master was a horror movie I watched as a kid one day when I stayed home from school and watched cable tv. I was mesmerized by these puppets and the evil that they were doing. There was a time when the cable channels like HBO and Viewers Choice, the pay per view channel, would show horror movies during the month of October and it was a cool time for young horror fans. The movie starts out with the introduction of the "Puppet Master" and his puppets at the Bodega Bay Inn on the coast of California. The folks at Full Moon Features released this film and fans flocked to see the puppets in action. On October 30th of this year, the tenth installment of the Puppet Master Series will be released and you can get a signed copy at http://www.fullmoondirect.com/Limited-Edition-Replicas-Bombshell-preorder-plus-free-Signed-PM-X-DVD_p_635.html

31 Days Of Horror: Day 19

During a discussion at work about the social and political ramifications of movies, I chose Freddy Vs Jason and argued my point very well. Freddy is the ruler of nightmares and dreams, Jason is a vicious killer and both are individuals you don't want to see in a dark alley.

Freddy, the child predator, dresses in red and green with a dirty fedora, dark pants and his weapon of choice is a glove with finger knives. In a political view, Freddy could represent the Republican Party due to the color choice of Red. Democrats refer to Republicans as "greedy" and Freddy wants all of the children on Elm Street.

Jason, the teenage killer, wears a hockey mask, torn clothes and his weapon of choice is a machete. In a political view, Jason could represent the Democratic Party due to his darker colored clothes that sometime have the color blue in them. Most folks look at Jason as the "Spirit Of Vengeance" for Earth or Mother Nature. Anytime Jason arrives it's usually just as a storm begins. Some environmentalists are Democrats.

Some of you may be wondering what I'm getting at with this observation and it's simple: I see two opponents fighting it out and only one will win, but who? With the Presidential Election on the horizon, President Obama and Governor Romney are battling for votes. Not as hardcore as Freddy or Jason, but they are trying to win the ultimate prize. Freddy and Jason are fighting for dominance. Some consider this the same thing... Anyway, this was my way of saying: Go VOTE!

Freddy has invaded the sleeping Jason's dreams and has used his mother's influence to get Jason to do his bidding. Kruger thrives on fear and the children of Elm Street have forgotten about him. Jason brings the fear back to Elm Street and when Jason goes above and beyond his "calling", Freddy takes issue!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 17

I was asked if this movie would make the list and since my buddy and favorite bartender Rusty Penland in Knoxville Tn dressed up like the main character for a Halloween party, I thought it was the right thing to do. On a side note, visit Rusty and my favorite bouncer "Power T" Tyler Trephon at The Pint House 815 Merchant Drive, Knoxville, TN 37912 and if you tip well, they'll treat ya well!

Shaun Of The Dead rocks! I'll admit I thought at first that it was "just another zombie movie" and that it would suck. I was wrong on so many levels. This british hor-medy (my word, feel free to use it) made me think of how would I deal with the zombie apocalypse and how would I get to my friends and loved ones. It takes a genre and doesn't spoof or parody it, but injects a bit of humor into a film of death and destruction.

Simon Pegg plays Shaun, an electronics clerk that seems to be lost in life until one day everything just goes bad. His pen busts and leaks red ink, his girlfriend breaks up with him and it just doesn't look good for him. His best friend Ed (Nick Frost) takes him to the Winchester Pub and hoping to cheer Shaun up, they have drinks and head back home. Their roommate is a dork (my opinion) and scolds them for playing music too loud. Ed asks: "What's wrong with your hand?" and the roommate goes on about a mugger that bit him and finally goes upstairs to sleep.

The next morning Shaun goes to the market and is oblivious to his surroundings. Zombies are basically all around and only a few humans are left. Does Shaun survive? Does he get his girlfriend back? Does Ed ever get off the couch? You'll have to watch and find out!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 16

Originally presented as a children's movie, The Lost Boys presented an alternative to the already familiar and established vampire genre. Set in what was referred to as the "Murder Capital of the World" Santa Carla California, is the story of a divorcee, her two sons Michael and Sam moving in with her eccentric father to start a new life. If only they knew what was really in store for them.

Michael (Jason Patric) spots a gorgeous girl at an outdoor concert and is infatuated with her, Sam (Corey Haim) laughs at his brother then finds a comic book shop to browse in. Michael sees the "Lost Boys" and their leader David (Kiefer Sutherland) as the girl jumps on a motorcycle and leaves.

Michael buys a leather jacket and wants to get his ear pierced as Star (Jami Gertz) offers to pierce it for him. They are about to ride off into the night and David and The Lost Boys confront them.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 15

I chose this movie because of the fun times I remember having in high school with my buddies and all of the goofy pranks we would pull. If we had been able to fight monsters like The Wolfman, Frankenstein's Monster and Dracula, we would've been "The Monster Squad"!

The Monster Squad is a fun filled adventure that combines kids and the monsters we grew up with. We would quote this movie just to make each other laugh. Especially when Mark Thomas saw a man get kicked in the balls and he said: Whoa, Wolfman's got nards! It didn't take much to entertain this group of friends and me. LoL!

I had the opportunity to finally watch this movie and it's awesome! Set in the 1950's and starring Billy Connolly as Fido the zombie pet, this comedic horror movie is one I would suggest to anyone! 31 Days Of Horror: Day 13

This suggestion came from Netflix and I was surprised to find out that this 1967 classic wasn't included with the other Rankin/Bass classic stop motion shows like Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer!

Mad Monster Party? is a show that I believe was for kids during Halloween and due to the horror movie monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein, was in the horror section of Netflix.

Boris Karloff and Phyllis Diller lend their voices to this campy spoof on the early horror movies that were made popular by Universal Studios. Movie monsters like The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Werewolf, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and of course The Hunchback from Notre Dame.

It's really cool and I'm happy that I not only saw it but could review it and suggest it to all of you!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 12

The movie chosen for today was a surprise to me. Due to my love of horror movies and wrestling, I received an email from a man in San Diego, CA that gave me a "mysterious" vibe. He mentioned a movie that combined both Horror and Wrestling and that is should be next on the list.

Wrestlemaniac is about a Lucha Libre wrestler that went crazy and was basically left in a ghost town. As luck would have it, a group of amateur porn film makers stumble upon this town and mayhem ensues. The wrestler was known as El Mascarado (The Massacre) and lives by the Lucha Libre rule of: When you defeat an opponent, you remove their mask. Well we all know that normal folks don't wear masks, so he would remove their faces! Yeah, it's gruesome...

The movie is pretty cool and I'm glad it was suggested. Like I said the email was a bit "mysterious", but I'm glad someone shed a "rey" of light on it!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 11-Reloaded

If you liked Saw, then you'll probably like Hostel. Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino bring you this horror film that takes you on a strange journey with two American tourists in Europe.

It seemed as if it was the proverbial "Americans stay home" flick, but the story read like a cautionary tale of "do not come here!" Rich men pay a huge fee to pretty much have their way with these "pieces of meat" and the things that are done to these people are just hideous. The true evil in the hearts of men is scarier than any monster. I'm twisted enough to enjoy the film up until the point of the last of it. I don't like anything near or in the eyes! (Just my deal)

BEST DVD IN THE WORLD

The WWE finally put out a dvd that is truly what it is: "The Best In The World"!

CM Punk, the "Straight Edge Superstar", has a three disc dvd set that chronicles the career of the "Pipebomb" artist. The documentary takes us on a trip back into the days where Punk was a kid all the way to the infamous "Pipebomb" promo on RAW.

The story behind the man is one that is inspiring as well as emotional. I really felt a kinship with Punk after he spoke about his family and the friends that would become his family. Friends tell personal tales about Punk and the times that they have shared.

As a wrestling fan since 1983, I can say that CM Punk is the real deal and doesn't allow himself to just quit when the "chips are down". Punk if you read this just know: that in this house you are exactly what you claim to be, "THE BEST IN THE WORLD!"

I remember people freaking out about this movie and I never understood why until I watched it. The Ring had a number of my friends not wanting to answer their phone for a while. LoL!

The Ring is an American version of a Japanese horror movie called Ringu.

In the movie folks watch a video and that seems to trigger a phone call where the person calling says that "you'll die in seven days..." (Paraphrasing) I watched this movie with friends and had heard about the "easter egg" on the dvd where you could see what was on the video. I had planned to call my buddy, who doesn't like horror movies, and scare him a little. After we watched the video, my phone rings and everybody laughed cause it made me jump. 31 Days Of Horror: Day 9

Said to be the scariest movie of all time, The Exorcist is the one movie that you can mention to anyone and their reaction is usually the same: tightening of body, closed eyes followed by bulging eyes, and in a trembling voice they say: I'd rather not watch it. Some folks are different when you mention it to them, but everyone remembers the scene where Regan (Linda Blair) turns her head completely around and gives that look of pure evil as she does it. There was even a parody of the movie called Repossessed starring Linda Blair and Leslie Nielsen.

The thought of being possessed by a demon let alone the Devil himself has been on the minds of many folks. Not that they would want it, some maybe, but of how horrible it would be to have that happen. It was written that a man was once possessed and Jesus cast out the demon and put it into an animal. I guess that's why some food tastes good but goes through a hellish process (cheap joke).

I watched this at the ripe ol' age of 22 and I won't lie, I watched it during the day. I didn't understand how something could be so scary until I watched the whole movie. It is a scary movie and I can safely say that it will go down as the scariest of all time.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 8

Patrick Gaffney in Murfreesboro TN had went on and on about this movie and I figured I'd give it a shot. I didn't know much about it and all I knew was the title: The Human Centipede (The First Sequence).

I caught it on Netflix and it started out like any other horror movie. As it continued, I started to feel uneasy. Like something wasn't quite right about this doctor. Then I saw a scene which summed up the reason why it was a horror film. In porn they use a term "Ass To Mouth" or "ATM" and this doctor would surgically attach someone's mouth to an anus. There's a scene when the "leader of the pack" says: "I gotta take a shit!" The person behind him squeals in horror... Yeah, this film was out there and since misery loves company... I suggest you see it, even if it's to make fun of it.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 7

Since there are so many different horror genres from slasher to psychological, I decided to watch a different horror movie today: Killer Klowns From Outer Space

I remember being home sick from school during October and watching HBO because no one was home to tell me I couldn't watch it. *Devilish grin* The movie was made in 1988 and is now considered a "cult classic".
A young Christopher Titus is in this movie and it's a fun take on an alien invasion.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 6

I joined some friends to watch some horror flicks and this was the one they were so excited to watch.

Considered a B-Movie, Traci Lords stars in this movie about a guy that can't seem to catch a break and makes a deal with the Devil to be the best rock-n-roll guitar player ever. The movie is what I would call a "b-movie" and it's very difficult to find so if you get the chance to see it, do it even if it's just for laughs!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 5

I've seen the remake of this movie and to be honest with y'all, I could only watch some of it. There was a scene where the victim cuts off an attacker's... The attacker is male. I don't do well with sharp objects near the eyes or genitals.

I was determined to watch it especially after some good friends "called me out" about only watching half of the remake. I watched the original today on netflix and I have to admit it's a great revenge movie. I can now say that I've seen it and the phrase: "Look what she's done to me!" is something that I won't forget.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 5

I decided to switch it up a little this year and watch a documentary about the evolution of the American horror film. This documentary chronicles the beginnings of the horror genre to the modern day masterpieces we hold near and dear to our hearts.

The documentary is narrated by Lance Henriksen and is a fun experience that I highly recommend all horror fans check out!

31 Days Of Horror: Day 4

I decided on the movie Saw for day four of Horrorfest. The movie was different but it does make you think about your life and the "traps" that cause you to be who you are.

Saw shows two men that are chained in a room with the choice to live or die. It's full of twists and turns, I suggest you see it if you haven't already.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 3

The George Romero classic is just that, a classic! The best place to be in a zombie apocalypse is a mall because you have just about all you would ever need. Sports stores, music, food courts, and arcades are the stores I would be happy with.

31 Days Of Horror: Day 2

It was suggested to me by a friend to watch the classic Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho. I figured I'd give it a shot since I had only seen the remake and the original just seemed kinda, well old fashioned. I sat here with my Pizza Hut and a two liter Wild Cherry Pepsi watching the story unfold. I literally got wrapped up in the story of Norman Bates and how disturbed he truly was. I liked the original Psycho and I'm glad it was suggested.

31 Days of Horror: Day 1

If I'm gonna start this year's "HORRORFEST", might as well start it off right! I remember being told about this movie and getting freaked out by just hearing about it. A buddy of mine had been sneaky and "borrowed" it from his sister, needless to say after watching it he didn't sleep for some time and was strangely good to everyone around him. I finally got the courage up to watch it once and I totally understand why he couldn't sleep or didn't wanna be mean or bad.

Clive Barker is considered a "Master Of Horror". He has created some of the most vicious and disturbing characters in the genre, but is actually not as disturbed as some would think. It always amazes me to hear someone say: "He wasn't who I thought he'd be, he was really nice!"
